Jaggery

Khansland Jaggery encompasses our complete range of traditional unrefined sweeteners — including date palm gur, sugarcane akher gur, and mixed jaggery preparations — each representing a different facet of Bangladesh's extraordinarily rich tradition of natural sweetener production that predates refined sugar by thousands of years.

Traditional jaggery is produced by boiling freshly extracted plant sap or juice in large open vessels until the water evaporates and the sugars concentrate into a thick mass that is then poured into moulds to set. This simple process preserves natural minerals, trace elements, and complex organic compounds — iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and molasses pigments — that give jaggery its characteristic deep colour, complex bittersweet flavour, and perceived nutritional advantages over refined white sugar.

In Bangladeshi cooking, jaggery is not merely a sweetener but an essential flavour ingredient. It brings a caramel-molasses depth to payesh and halwa that white sugar cannot replicate. Date palm gur in particular has an almost smoky, wine-like complexity from the natural fermentation that occurs during collection of the night-cold palm sap. Our jaggery is sourced from traditional gur-making cooperatives across Bangladesh and packed immediately after setting to preserve freshness.
