Barishal Hilsa Traders has been sourcing and distributing the finest Padma Hilsa since 1990. The Hilsa (Ilish) is not merely a fish in Bangladesh — it is a cultural icon, the subject of poetry, and the centrepiece of every significant celebration. The Padma variety is particularly prized for its high fat content, delicate texture, and the unmistakable sweet-savoury aroma that can only come from fish that have migrated through the clean currents of the Padma River.

We source exclusively from DOF-licensed fishermen during the open season, supporting sustainable Hilsa conservation efforts. The Smoked Hilsa — Large (500g) is available in size category 900g–1.2 kg (jumbo, 1–2 pieces/kg) and packed as Vacuum sealed (frozen). Storage: Keep frozen at -18°C. Thaw in refrigerator overnight.. Shelf life: 6 months frozen at -18°C. Best prepared as Sorshe Ilish (Hilsa in mustard sauce), Ilish Bhuna, or simply pan-fried with turmeric and chilli. The Hilsa is the only fish officially recognised with a Geographical Indication (GI) in Bangladesh — when you buy from us, you get the real thing.
