Sesame Laddoo

Khansland Sesame Laddoo is tiler naru — the traditional Bengali sesame seed sweet ball that is one of the oldest and most beloved winter confections in Bangladesh, made from toasted sesame seeds bound with date palm jaggery, occasionally enriched with coconut or peanuts, and formed into compact, fragrant balls that are simultaneously a snack, a sweet, a festival food, and a nutritional powerhouse in a remarkably small package.

The making of tiler naru traditionally occurs in the winter months — particularly around the Poush harvest festival and Makar Sankranti — when fresh date palm jaggery is available and the cool weather allows the fresh naru to set firmly. The combination of toasted sesame and fresh nolen gur jaggery creates a flavour of extraordinary depth: the deep, roasted nuttiness of the sesame, the complex caramel-molasses sweetness of the jaggery, and the slight smokiness from the wood-fire cooking of both components.

Sesame seeds are extraordinarily rich in calcium — one of the highest plant sources available — along with iron, magnesium, zinc, and the unique antioxidant lignans sesamol and sesamin. Combined with the iron and mineral content of jaggery, tiler naru provides meaningful nutritional value alongside its exceptional flavour. Our tiler naru are made fresh in small batches using organically grown black sesame seeds and winter-harvested date palm jaggery.
