Peas

Khansland Peas are organically grown dried green peas — mature, fully dried field peas harvested at complete maturity when their sugar content has converted to starch and the seed has achieved its maximum nutritional development. They are distinct from fresh garden peas and frozen peas in being a fully shelf-stable dried legume that requires soaking and cooking.

Dried peas have a sweet, grassy flavour with an earthy undertone that intensifies with slow cooking, and they produce a thick, creamy consistency when cooked through. Their high soluble fibre content contributes to the thick, satisfying texture of preparations made with them, and their protein content makes them a significant source of plant nutrition.

Motor dal — dried pea soup or curry — is a beloved preparation across Bangladesh, particularly in the winter months. Cooked simply with onion, green chili, turmeric, and a tempering of panch phoron in mustard oil, it produces a richly flavoured, filling dal. Dried peas also appear in mixed lentil preparations and are an important component of the traditional panch mishali (five-lentil mix) that our catalogue carries.
