Kalijira Rice

Khansland Kalijira Rice is one of the rarest and most treasured rice varieties in Bangladesh, grown exclusively in the Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts where specific soil composition, elevation, and seasonal temperature variations create the conditions for this miniature-grain aromatic variety to develop its signature fragrance and flavour.

The grains are tiny — roughly half the length of standard long-grain rice — with a deep, complex aroma that fills the kitchen when cooking begins. The cooked rice is exceptionally tender and soft, with a buttery, slightly sticky quality that makes it ideal for celebratory rice dishes. Its natural fragrance is so powerful that it perfumes every dish it is combined with, making it the traditional choice for wedding pulao and Eid biryani.

Beyond ceremonial use, Kalijira is prized for payesh — the Bengali rice pudding made with milk, jaggery, and cardamom. The small grain cooks to a creamy, luscious consistency in milk that creates a payesh with incomparable depth of flavour. Produced in limited quantities each season, we work directly with Dinajpur district farmers to ensure you have access to genuine, properly harvested grain.
