Fish Curry Spice Mix

Khansland Fish Curry Spice Mix is a hand-blended combination of pre-measured whole and ground spices specifically formulated for the preparation of traditional Bangladeshi fish curry — the most important and most frequently prepared curry in the entire Bengali cooking repertoire. The blend is calibrated to complement the delicate flavour of freshwater fish without overpowering it.

The blend contains turmeric for colour and warmth, coriander for body and mild sweetness, cumin for earthiness, dried red chili for heat, a small amount of fenugreek for its characteristic flavour note in fish preparations, and a finishing garam masala component that provides the aromatic top note of cardamom, cinnamon, and bay. The proportioning of the blend reflects the experience that too much garam masala overwhelms delicate fish while too little leaves the curry flat.

The blend is calibrated for mustard oil cooking and formulated to enhance the natural flavour of ilish, rui, katla, and other freshwater fish that form the basis of everyday Bengali fish cooking. Each packet is precisely measured for approximately 500 grams to 1 kilogram of fish, eliminating the measurement and ingredient assembly steps that add time to weeknight cooking.
